General Manager (lodge) , Malawi

Malawian Style, an awesome adventure and safari company based in Lilongwe, has recently setup an exciting fun lodge in Cape Maclear, specifically for the young, fun crowd The Funky Cichlid. Check out our awesome promo video Funkys Promo Vid. There are so many exciting things going on at the moment and Funkys has snapped up a good market share and very quickly earned the reputation as the best place to be on the lake.
Previously we have had International staff volunteers and help out as managers at The Funky Cichlid, working closely with the local team and taking things to the next level. However, as we look to have more permanent structures in place and more consistency we are now looking for a longer term lodge manager at The Funky Cichlid. This is a really fun lodge and position to work in, but it also requires hard work, dedication and patience. As you can expect, things happen the African way and therefor we do require the right person, who has the right set of skills to help take Funkys to the next level.
It is a great time to join the EPIC Funkys team, with loads of exciting developments on the go. The Cape Maclear triathlon is scheduled for the last weekend of August, which is always a busy weekend, and then a month later Lake of Stars is on up North. December madness is always busy and if last year is anything to go by the Funkys NYE bash will be the place to be...

The role:
The role is going to be a really varied role, you could be behind the bar one minute then taking clients boating the next, then crunching numbers or helping with food and beverage procedures. The key thing we are looking for is the willingness to get stuck in and to be a team player.
We work hard in the week and play hard over the weekends...
You will of course have some time off to relax and enjoy the stunning location you would be working in, go for a kayak over lunch, or a wakeboard after work. The sun ALWAYS shines!! You’ll also get the opportunity to go on safaris with Malawian Style… they are truly awesome!

The various skills we are looking for:
- Sales/marketing/PR skills
- Good logistical, planning and organisational skills
- Social and Digital Media skills would be beneficial
- Leisure Mgt (experience driving boats) would be advantageous
- Food and Beverage MGT experience
- GOOD HR and People Skills
- A Financial background would be a bonus (supported by Accountant)
- Photography/ Videography Skills would be appreciated

- Outgoing peoples person
- Want to make a difference (living in paradise)
- Smart thinker
- Up for a challenge
- Well presented
- Willing to commit minimum 1 year

English is essential and widely spoken around Malawi. Chichewa is the local language but not essential to know. Any other languages are a bonus as we have travellers from all over the world stopping by!

We want this to be a really memorable experience for anyone who comes out so want to include as much as possible:
Bouncing between the beach, bush and bright lights of Lilongwe (mainly based at the lake)
- Free accommodation
- Free food
- Basic Salary (USD500/month)
- Safaris and Lake Adventures

As close to the 1st September as possible (current Manager due to leave Mid September).
We regret that we are not in a position to cover International flights, and you would need to cover the respective Visas to Malawi. We are happy to get you involved on Safaris to Zambia etc but again you would just need to cover your visas and we would cover the rest.

Compensation details
- USD500/month Salary
- Living in an amazing country
- Free accommodation
- Free food
- Some free drinks
- Lake Adventures
- Safari adventures

Please note we will not be able to pay for your flights to/from Zambia... but we will look after you and make your stay as fun and rewarding as possible. Visas between countries would also need to be covered by you.
You'll get a chance to really make a difference to a community, gain experience in marketing a travel destination and get to explore an incredible country.. did I mention SAFARI??!
