Founded in 2012, our client is a Social Enterprise, focussing on Solar for the rural market. The Rwanda office was opened in 2014 and has now reached a team of 14 people. The MD Rwanda reports to the co-founders and board of directors.

What are your tasks?
● You are responsible for running the company in Rwanda
● You are based in Kigali, with regular travel to rural villages
Strategy & Leadership
● You are responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction in the overall management and growth of the company. The MD will be required to set up systems to oversee business operations and grow the business.
● Lead the formulation, planning and implementation of a strategic plan to guide the growth and development of the business and the achievement of the overall company mission and vision. Among others you analyze and interpret the (East) African Solar Market, the competitors, the opportunities (new business or product development- changes).
● You are responsible for the development, implementation and follow up of different successful business models for the (East) African Market for pico solar and future products
● Develop and nurture business relationships and networks that can be leveraged to achieve business goals.
● Build company image by building harmonious relationships and collaborating with customers, government, community organisations and staff.
● You are able to attract investors, grants or loans to further finance the growth of the Rwanda company.
Operations Management
● Oversee the effective management of sales and marketing, procurement, field and technical, finance, human resource and administration units to ensure the achievement of the overall objectives of the company. Provide leadership and direction to all other unit heads.
● Improve and grow the business through innovative marketing techniques (among others road shows).
● Set up and manage procurement (including stores management), sales and marketing, field and technical, finance, human resource and administration units.
● Develop policies and procedures to guide operation of all units and enforce ethical business practices
● You ensure communications with the head office, especially with the Account Manager NGO/Off-grid, the Logistics department, Finance in the Netherlands.
● You are responsible for employee policy, process improvement, operational improvement
● Through your enthusiasm and inspiring way of working, you get the best performance of your team, which will result in meeting the KPIs. Teach by example is your style
● Monitor the performance of each unit as a whole to ensure the achievement of strategic objectives and overall company vision. You report directly to the board of directors through monthly management reports
What have you done? (Experience)
● At least a Master’s degree in business administration, management, Developing Markets or related field
● At least 5 years professional experience at management level in a busy environment in a fast growing environment
● Commercial view
● Preferably several years’ experience in ’low & middle income markets’
● Preferably several years’ experience with finance, human resources, logistics, sales, retail in developing markets, long term partnerships with coops and/or MFIs
● People manager, you have experience in how to get your employees to excel in their roles. Make their performance on the highest possible level.
● You can engage with all kinds of people, from different (cultural, ethnical, social) background and different intellectual levels
● You are interested in working in a B-corp/Social enterprise, where the commercial goals translate to creating more impact and to contributing to the mission of this company
● Excellent with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
● Experience with Exact online and Google apps is welcome
● Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (and preferably Dutch & French)
