NABC is een ledenorganisatie met 300 leden uit de Nederlandse private sector. Naast de algemene handelsbevordering en ondersteuning richt NABC’s agribusiness afdeling zich specifiek op handelsbevordering tussen de agri-sectoren in Nederland en Afrika. NABC faciliteert op deze manier waardevolle zakelijke deals en partnerschappen tussen Nederlandse en Afrikaanse commerciële partijen. Hierbij werken we samen met kennisinstellingen, publieke instanties
(ambassades, ministeries) en agrarische ondernemers, zowel lokaal als Nederlands, om de respectievelijke agri- sector naar een hoger niveau te tillen en uiteindelijk op de lange termijn economische ontwikkeling te stimuleren.

NABC ondersteunt bedrijven in de land- en tuinbouw, pluimvee en melkvee, en de bredere agrofood sector door middel van handelsmissies, evenementen (kennisseminars en conferenties), strategische programma’s, marktstudies, business development en sector platforms (impact clusters). Als junior agribusiness project officer ondersteun jij het agribusiness team met verschillende activiteiten.

De functie
Je organiseert handelsmissies en denkt mee over nieuwe projecten en project leads/business pipeline. Hierbij hoort ook het doen van desk onderzoek en marktscans, bijvoorbeeld het identificeren van passende markten en importeurs voor Afrikaanse exporteurs of anderzijds, het identificeren van lokale agribusiness met een vraag naar Nederlandse agri-kennis en technologie. Er wordt dus van je verwacht dat je in een internationaal werkveld, met verschillende Nederlandse en Afrikaanse stakeholders kan samenwerken. Deze kunnen variëren van de publieke sector (RVO, ambassades, ministeries) tot bedrijven, NGO’s en kennisinstellingen/onderzoeksinstituten.

Specifieke verantwoordelijkheden:
▪ Organisatie van handelsmissies en sector of regio-specifieke events
✓ Van acquisitie tot logistieke organisatie en uitvoering/begeleiding van delegaties;
✓ Meedenken over potentiële zakenpartners voor Nederlandse (uitgaande) en Afrikaanse (inkomende) bedrijven en het opzetten van matchmaking schema’s, individuele afspraken en (collectieve) bedrijfsbezoeken.
✓ Opzetten van inhoud en programma van missies en kennisseminars, workshops etc.;
✓ Opstellen van missieboekjes, marketingmaterialen (nieuwsbrieven) en informatievoorziening (eventueel in overleg met projectpartner);
✓ Aanspreekpunt voor deelnemers, lokale partijen, en ambassades wanneer nodig;
▪ Uitvoering van marktstudies, market scans en rapportages (missie evaluaties). Aanleveren van relevante contacten, leads en data en schrijven van aanbevelingen;
▪ Informeren en adviseren van bedrijven in Nederland en Afrika (o.a. NABC leden) op het gebied van zakelijke kansen in zowel Nederland als Afrikaanse markten, inclusief toegang tot verschillende financiële instrumenten;
▪ Uitvoeren van andere taken zoals marketing, promotie, branding van de agri-sector (en agri-subsectoren) onder NABC leden en het bredere NABC netwerk;
▪ Uitvoering en ondersteuning tijdens (handels) missies van en naar Afrika.

Jouw profiel:
▪ Afgestudeerd op WO Bachelor (en Master) niveau in relevante onderwerpen zoals: Landbouw, Economie, (International) Business Management/ en of Finance.
▪ Achtergrond- en/ of aantoonbare werkervaring (> 1 jaar) in de agri-/landbouw sector, internationale ontwikkeling en internationale business. Ervaring op het gebied van publiekprivate samenwerking en private sector development is een pre;
▪ Affiniteit met Afrika. Ervaring met werken/wonen in Afrika is een pre;
▪ Ervaring met (het ondersteunen van) programma ontwikkeling en implementatie (van het schrijven van voorstellen, implementatie tot rapportage en evaluatie)
▪ Kennis van (innovatieve) financieringsmodellen, -kansen, en -wetgeving;

About the Team
Komaza partners with rural farmers to plant and grow thousands of hectares of new woodlots. We sustainably manage the woodlots we’ve planted through efficient harvest operations. We lead research and innovation in technical forestry for smallholder farmers. The Harvest Department leverages data, mobile technology, training, and user-centered business systems to empower Komaza make better farmer related decisions to become the future of African forestry. About This Role
The Harvest department is one of the newest teams at Komaza and is expected to grow dramatically over the new few years - hiring dozens of staff, investing in mechanization, adding new teams in Kwale county, and providing some support to our pilot in central Kenya. In this role you will build, lead and grow our harvest planning and operations. You’ll work closely with company leadership to develop and refine the strategic vision for the Harvest department for the next 3-5 years and prioritize activities to achieve this vision. You’ll develop, implement and optimize the management systems, training materials, and SOPs to enable significant growth of Harvest operations. As Harvest Director, you will directly report to the VP Forestry Operations.

What You Will Do
- Harvest OMS: Build the harvest operations management system (OMS) which will allow the harvest operations coordinators to manage dozens of staff and thousands of farms remotely.
- Team: Build the team needed to design our harvest systems and execute them at scale.
- Harvest Systems: Build efficient, effective systems to ensure all farms are thinned/clearfelled/coppice clearfelled at the right time and at the right $/CBM.
- Harvest Data: Work with our technology and growth modeling teams to collect, validate, store, analyze and report the huge volumes of data needed to managed thousands of wood lots across Kilifi and Kwale counties.
- Harvest Innovation: After building the basic systems above, take the lead on designing step-change improvements or modifications to our harvest systems.
- Harvest Execution: Manage, inspire, coach, and problem-solve with the team to hit forest management, CBM, and cost per CBM targets.

About This Role
The Sales Director will build and lead Komaza’s Sales team to rapidly scale untreated and treated wood product sales in Coastal Kenya, and plywood and sawn timber in Central Kenya. You own the Sales strategies, build and maintain key relationships, close big deals, and make the team successful. You are the voice of the customer in the company leadership team and rally the rest of the company to be extremely customer-centric next to farmer-centric.

- Oversee Komaza’s Coastal and Central Kenya Sales teams, supporting them in developing work plans, and motivating them to go above and beyond

Project Background

The team leader will steer a team of around 7 staff in Abuja and additional field staff. As this would be SNV’s first project in Nigeria, the project manager will also represent SNV in Nigeria and has limited additional responsibilities regarding SNV Nigeria profiling and development of new projects. The project will have a field office in Kaduna, and perhaps also expand to other states at a later phase. The initial phase of the project is for four years.

The team leader will report a SNV country director based in one of the neighboring countries.

Job Description
The incumbent is responsible for leadership and coordination of program planning and management; coordination of programmatic themes; political analysis and will be in charge of the following:

Execute overall project management;
- Guide the project set-up, including developing work plans, budgets and competence table with financial responsibilities and mandates;
- Build, strengthen and manage partnerships with regional governments, key partners, institutions and stakeholders;

Manage donor relations;
- Overall management of all human, physical and financial resources related to the project;
- Monitor performance of the project management team to ensure all milestones set in the annual work plan are met, develop mitigation plans to reduce risks and take corrective actions to remedy any deviation from the work plans;

Account and report to SNV and the donor on project performance;
- Guide knowledge development, documentation and communication and branding in close collaboration with donor;
- Identify follow-up funding and partnership possibilities and business development.
- Manage change processes related to market systems, supply chain and sector development, enabling environment, , development of Public-Private Partnerships, etc. in the horticulture and potato sectors.

Qualifications
- A relevant post-graduate qualification in Business Administration, Agronomy, Agricultural Economy or related field;
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive responsibility and work experience in managing and implementing multi-faceted donor-funded development projects, preferably in Africa;
- Several years of experience with market development, value chain analysis and inclusive business;
- Solid experience in project management, fund management and budgeting, preferably at least 8 years of which at least three years in a difficult context.
- Excellent social and networking skills, ability to engage with the private sector, civil society, donors and governments;
- Able to strategically inspire and energies project teams;
- Multidisciplinary profile to support the different specialists in the team;
- Experience in Monitoring and Evaluation;
- Demonstrated experience in managing various stakeholders;
- Excellent communication (written and oral), reporting and presentation skills;
- Fluency in English is required (French is an advantage);
- Willingness to travel to all project locations.

About The Team

Komaza is entering a phase of rapid growth and will soon expand into new geographies. To succeed, our business support teams must also rapidly increase their speed, scope and scale of work. We need to design, hire for, and build new service departments including Supply Chain (procurement & logistics), Fleet Management (for scores of motorbikes), Business Administration (facilities & property management) and IT (hundreds of computers and smartphones). Each service function will be led by a strong, experienced manager, each growing their team and systems to support rapid growth. Collectively, this group of business operations departments will grow from 15 to 40+ people over the next two years.

About This Role

As Komaza’s Director of Business Operations (BizOps), you will be responsible for leading our shared services center to support rapid expansion of our operations. You will build a team of key managers and direct development of clear strategic plans for each department, then drive to results. This role requires significant hands-on design leadership to build systems, data structures, policies, plans, and cultivate a culture of excellence. Beyond building capacity within each department, you must also connect the dots between departments to foster the collaboration required to tackle major challenges.

Qualifications
- MBA from top global university (or equivalent degree/work experience)
- 7-10 years of work experience at industry-leading companies in a relevant field (e.g. finance, internal consulting), with 3+ years of experience leading high-caliber team mates
- Superb analytical, critical-thinking and quantitative skills, with prior experience in complex systems design, excel modeling, and operational implementation
- Strong innovation skills to troubleshoot bottlenecks and design continuous improvements.
- Ability to retain big-picture strategic awareness while diving deep into details, and providing coaching to help others focus on key factors, rather than getting lost in the weeds.

Royal Van Zanten is an innovative company with a history going back more than 150 years, operating successfully within international ornamental plant cultivation. We do this by continuous genetic improvement, by creating synergy in breeding and propagation technologies and by cooperating intensively with our partners in the chain on marketing activities. Together we develop new species and varieties and improve the current crops within our core products. These are the cut flower varieties of alstroemeria, bouvardia, chrysanthemum and statice, the bulbous lily and the potted products of aster, celosia, chrysanthemum and multiflora. We supply this starting material to our customers, who are professional breeders all over the world.

The production of basic plant propagation material and some of the breeding activities take place on our two sites in Uganda: Mukono and Wakiso. Production in these locations is mainly focused on pot and cut flower chrysanthemum cuttings as well as bouvardia, celosia and aster. Both farms are located at approximately 30 km from Kampala. Over 500 commercial varieties are produced in Uganda on 21 hectares of greenhouses by a total of over 1000 employees.

For one of the farms in Uganda we are currently seeking to recruit a

Farm Manager m/f

As a farm manager your responsibilities include, among others, the production on one of our sites. You will manage the various teams and coach, train and motivate the team leaders. Besides breeding-specific requirements (you will have a solid background in plant breeding), it would be an advantage for you to have technical insight (with regards to the fleet of machinery, installations, etc.). In addition, this role will focus on:
- Managing the production and logistical processes on the farm, in particular their cultivation aspects with regards to climate, lighting, the use of fertiliser and pesticides etc. You will be supported by a cultivation specialist.
- You will formulate and implement the work plan
- You will support and if necessary deputise for the MD
- You will liaise with the MD, Finance Manager, the Farm Manager at Mukono and other departments
- You will be responsible for quality control, setting up the requisite working procedures, checks etc.

Requirements:
- Relevant Higher Professional education
- Proven breeding knowledge combined with a number of years of experience
- Knowledge of climate control systems, fertilising systems, horticultural technology
- Good communication skills
- Authority and essentially having natural leadership qualities
- Meticulous and quality-focused
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities
