You will be responsible for the farming activities of Africa Amini Alama currently focusing on 3 or 4 farming locations ranging between 1 and 80 hectares in different geographic and climatological areas in the wider Arusha area of Tanzania.

The position would best be suited for a detailed oriented doer that understands and thrives on trial and building a knowledge base of working concepts.

The position is in principle a cost paid voluntary position with a modest stipend to for living costs. The ideal term for this position is between 3 and 5 years and potentially longer.

Florensis Ethiopia is specialized in the growing of mother stock to produce high quality cuttings. We are producing a wide range of annuals, perennials and biannuals. Florensis Ethiopia is producing cuttings from 15 hectares of greenhouses. The organisation employs 700 permanent employees and is increasing during high-season to approximately 900 employees.

What does your job as Operations Manager at Florensis entail?
The Operations Manager is responsible for all operational and growing activities at Florensis Ethiopia and takes care that operations are run efficiently and effectively. You make sure that Florensis Ethiopia delivers high quality cuttings to its customers on time in the right quantities. You are steering an experienced operational management team at an inspiring and motivated way. You will report directly to the general manager and be able to deputize him during absence.

What are your tasks and responsibilities?
• Motivating and coaching a team of Production Managers and Senior Supervisors;
• Ensure availability and delivery of high-quality cuttings to customers;
• You make sure that all operational departments are running smoothly and efficiently;
• Ensure an adequate and efficient system of building up mother stock;
• Being end-responsible for all kind of planning activities regarding mother plants;

What do we require from you as a Operations Manager?
• A bachelor’s degree in horticulture or agronomics from a reputable institution or similar capacity level through work experience;
• Minimum 7 years of relevant work experience in the same area;

• You have strong managerial skills, and ability to lead and influence at an executive level with respect to the Ethiopian culture;

POSITION OVERVIEW
We are looking for a dynamic, highly skilled, self-motivated and charismatic Production Manager with a strong bias for management skills in implementing crop production process from planning, harvest to post harvest. You should have at least one year of experience in a similar role, growing under IPM and on a farm producing for direct market.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Part of Senior Management Team.
• Motivating and coaching the Production Team
• Direct oversight accountability of all activities in the field and packhouse to ensure high quality Roses for the markets.
• Meeting production targets, weekly, monthly and annually.
• Making production projections and budget control within the available resources.
• Green house management with crop management and husbandry adhering to good agronomic practices.

About the role:
We're looking for a passionate, dynamic, seed entrepreneur to lead our entry into the potato seed market in Rwanda. After two years of success in supporting the development of the hybrid maize seed market now serving over 30% of national demand and over 460,000 farmers - One Acre Fund is now excited to begin diversifying our seed product offering to potato seed. We require a candidate who is willing to make it their life's mission for the next two years to grow the best quality seed for Rwandan farmers and to navigate any challenge this process throws at them with patience, positivity and passion. This project aims to bring the highest quality potato seed to tens of thousands of Rwandan farmers. This work will create hundreds of thousands of dollars of impact by increased harvest and nutrition for farm households within the next two years.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Seed Department Manager you will:
• Lead the development and introduction of our potato seed portfolio
• Bring over 1000 MT of certified seed to market in our first year enough for an estimated 10,000 farmers
• Develop relationships with local and international providers of germplasm and existing mini-tuber suppliers to guarantee a supply of pre-basic seed
• Select varieties to produce suitable for our market - high yield, disease resistance and ware potato characteristics
• Develop flagship pre-basic, basic and certified seed production farm(s)
• Develop our existing partners and new partners into quality early generation potato seed producers
• Where beneficial/necessary build partnerships with government organizations, regulatory bodies, farm cooperatives, seed companies and other partners to ensure the success of the program
• Work with the local authorities to ensure all seed meets the required standards:
• Develop a lab suitable for phytosanitary testing (ELISA, PCR and seed quality testing)
• Review current seed testing practices and capacity build where necessary to ensure the Rwandan market meets international standards
• Work with in-country potato centres which are already working to support quality seed production with seed producers
• Provide support on developing the technical elements on funding applications with our Business Development Team and Business Operations Lead
• Develop the required infrastructure and systems for long-term success for seed potato
• Build small-medium size cold storage units for pre-basic and basic seed storage
• Rent or build warehousing spaces suitable for certified seed dormancy breaking
• Develop strategy for infrastructure and investments required for long-term success of potato seed in Rwanda
• Solve systematic potato supply chain challenges in Rwanda to grow a viable, profitable, high-quality seed business

Description de la fonction

VOS RESPONSABILITES :
- Contribuer à la mise en œuvre du programme en prenant part à la planification, l’exécution, la coordination, le monitoring et l’évaluation des activités afin d’assurer que les résultats du programme soient atteints dans le temps d’exécution imparti ; notamment la consolidation des fondamentaux d’une gestion forestière durable et l’apport de pratiques innovantes en lien avec les objectifs et résultats attendus.
- Mettre en place et coordonner tous les inputs techniques relatifs aux pratiques visant une gestion durable du couvert forestier en interaction avec celles existantes au niveau agricole (agroécologie, agroforesterie) et les alimenter par une veille quant aux recherches et expériences récentes en matière d’accompagnement de la transition agro-écologique ; mobiliser, coacher et former les équipes et partenaires sur ces thématiques.
- Organiser les capitalisations, la gestion et le partage des connaissances afin de générer un environnement inclusif, informé et confiant au sein du programme.
- Accompagner le changement, renforcer les connaissances des populations locales sur les pratiques durables ainsi que les capacités des structures partenaires, notamment en matière de foresterie et de pratiques agro écologiques, afin de contribuer à l’amélioration de leur organisation, de leurs processus et systèmes, à l’acquisition de nouvelles compétences et de pratiques innovantes au niveau de leurs équipes.
- Contribuer au développement des dynamiques d’échanges avec les autres projets, en particulier avec le secteur de la formation professionnelle et notamment pour travailler sur une approche territoriale du Développement Local.

Votre profil

Niveau de formation requis

Expériences requises

Senior Harvest Manager in Kenya , Kenya

About the Role
The Senior Harvest Manager (SHM) is a mid-level management role who is the primary support to the Operations Coordinator and Harvest Manager. The SHM will be responsible for planning, training and collaborating with other departments and internal stakeholders to ensure a seamless flow of harvest activities for all harvest teams reporting to them. The SHM is also critical in the management of resources deployed for harvest activities and will be responsible for ensuring sufficient support and accountability of harvest teams.

This role will be based in Naivasha, Kenya.

What You Will do

Team Management & Leadership
- Manage productivity and quality of outcomes by monitoring performance with frequent follow-up and using measurable criteria. Provide regular advice & coaching to improve performance.
- Train, coach and mentor direct reports to develop their skills, knowledge and capacity to succeed in their current roles and allow for growth in their Komaza careers.
- Build a positive, motivated team culture, supporting key values of honesty, hard work, and quality aligned with company values.
- Oversee data collection via appropriate data collection tools. Ensure data integrity. Analyze data to make critical decisions.
- Lead team problem solving to quickly resolve challenges. Coordinate case management with the team, ensuring everything is well documented and/or shared with the relevant departments for their input, implementation & feedback.

Planning
- Prepare harvest plans for the teams and communicate the plans to teams members in appropriate time
- Ensure a steady harvest pipeline is sustained throughout the year
- Effectively plan with Harvest Managers to ensure teams achieve planned outputs.

Safety Compliance
- Supervise and ensure safety compliance within teams during harvest OPs.
- Ensure standards of excellence are maintained throughout felling, extraction and loading of trees
- Ensure all PPEs are in place and used correctly by all Komaza teams and casual workers at all times
- Train and retrain teams on safety measures
- Deal with non compliance of safety SOPs and reward/recognize adherence to the same
- Support the team with immediate action in case of a safety incident occurring.

Logistics Coordination
- The SHM shall work closely with the Business Operations Officer and external service providers to manage transport, he/she shall share Harvest Operations plans with the Business Operations team and other relevant departments such as Finance to allow for smooth operations and effective interdepartmental collaboration.
- The SHM shall work hand in hand with service providers to ensure they meet SLAs as agreed with Komaza and to organize contingency where needs arise.

Data Management
- Train the team on data collection, quality control and reporting procedures
- Ensure that the team is equipped with the right tools and skills for accurate data reporting
- Collaborate with the design team to use data to inform operational and strategic decisions
- Conduct data audits to ensure that high standards of data accuracy are maintained.

What You Have
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of two years’ experience in managing complex people centered operations; or a Diploma with over 5 years’ experience managing complex operations
- 2 years experience in managing teams working in environments that require the maintenance of high safety standards
- Experience in Forestry or Wood Harvesting is an added advantage
- Training and coaching ability and experience
- Proven experience planning and coordinating cross-functional projects, including effective lateral and upward management.
- Advance computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
