Job overview:
As interim operations manager you will face a fantastic challenge of starting up a newly build production facility in an African country and lead the implementation of the operational performance standards and train and develop the operational team accordingly. In this position you are responsible for factory management, risk assessment, opportunities recognition, business reporting, development and improvements of operational and process efficiencies, and information exchange within our commercial team. Your natural leadership skills, high energy, drive, creativity and outstanding communication skills will be necessary to develop the facility and its operation to achieve production volume, financial, development and sustainability targets conform the strategic business plan.
This role will report into the Operations Director EMEA and functionally to the General Manager of Ethiopia.

Responsibilities/objectives:
 Lead the plant team to maintain timely, safe and efficient plant operations.
 Drive process improvement and change management programs to clear conclusion and measurable benefit.
 Establish and communicate policy and best practices.
 Measure and report performance against KPIs.
 Ensuring cost control and increasing productivity and sales.
 Support planning and budget responsibilities.
 Works with management to ensure effective organizational design and those roles are correctly organized, defined, documented and communicated.
 Ensures effective safety procedures, tools and record keeping are managed through plant leadership.
 Adheres to company GMP’s (good manufacturing practices), safety procedures and all other quality processes.
 Develop and train the operational team to be able to work on industrial operational standards.
 Select and train (young) talents for the succession of your role as production/operations manager before end of your assignment
 Optimizing production flow, from inbound to final products
 Optimize the operations and process efficiencies and technology
 Further developing the operational management team and workforce.
 Development of the operation towards organic and sustainable production
 Communications with the leadership at a senior level in a complex, global organisation, with the demonstrable ability to work in a matrix organization, influencing others through 'soft power';
 Continuing the implementation of the new business structure, demonstrating the ability to identify the necessary steps towards an ambitious goal;
 Be final responsible for supply chain, factory budget, logistics, quality, production, safety and administration for this factory in Ethiopia;
 Determine and prioritize the plant’s strategic direction and tactical activities designed to serve and satisfy our customers.
 Ensure alignment with our customers’ needs; ensure they are well-informed of our programs.


Skills/attributes:
 Education on a Bachelor level in production and/or agriculture is minimally required
 Min 3-5 years of (leadership) experience in the raw material processing industry in an international setting.
 Change management leader with proven ability to build teams;
 Ability to lead teams, providing professional direction, inspiration, high standards of performance and championing standards and developing team members;
 Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in;
 Significant experience of managing staff with different backgrounds and expertise and building and developing their performance;
 Proven understanding of sustainable production.
 Experience in Africa or another developing country
 Entrepreneurially minded and highly driven
 Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work in multicultural team
 Ability to solve challenging problems, prioritizing, meeting deadlines and working with minimal direction – strong ‘self-starter’ able to switch between ‘workfloor’ and management level.
 Proficiency in English language (in writing and verbally) is a must;
 Advanced proficiency with Word and Excel.
 Willingness and the ability to live and stay during this assignment in Ethiopia.

The Commercial Broiler Manager is responsible for the following tasks:

Required academic and professional qualitfications:
• Master in Business Administration, Agriculture, Food Processing related subject
• Certifications in relevant management topics are a bonus (veterinary science; health, safety and environment; human resources; production and process improvement etc.)
• At least 10 years of experience in poultry production and processing, with exposures to all three areas of the job (broiler production, meat processing, sales and marketing)
• Emerging market experience preferably in Africa, alternatively in other markets with tropical climatic and business conditions

For our client, who is a food producing company, we are recruiting a Supply Chain and Warehouse Manager in South Africa.

Key Performance areas:

Supply Chain:
• The Supply Chain & Warehouses Manager shall be in charge of the complete procurement of the company and shall be in charge to optimize it for any involved cost. For the part related to ingredients, the Supply Chain & Warehouses Manager shall get the support of the Global Procurement team who leads prices negotiations.
• The Supply Chain & Warehouses Manager shall be in contact with the production and sales teams for forecasting needs and make sure that needs are meets in an optimized way.
• Support the organisational mandate by providing direct and indirect support to the Management in respect of the Supply Chain/ Procurement processes;
• Verify requisitions to ensure compliance with the Supply Chain Management requirements;
• Identify the needs to acquire and dispose assets in line with the established procedures, systems and controls;
• Implement procurement best practices in terms of SCM Policy and maintain records;
• The Supply Chain & Warehouses Manager shall also be in charge of recommending optimized solutions for transport, export, import & warehouses and to review the efficiency of the process at any time.
• Evaluate and report on the performance of all suppliers/service providers;
• Assist in management of the facilities and equipment lease agreements;
• Assist Management in the implementation of facilities Management policies and procedures;

Warehousing:
• The Supply Chain & Warehouses Manager shall be in charge of the 5 warehouses and 2 other outsourced warehouses including 3 depos
• The Supply Chain & Warehouses Manager shall take care of receiving (in partnership with quality control), warehousing & transferring in between warehouses and using/updating systems of information & production.
• In particular, the Supply Chain & Warehouses Manager shall be in charge of the stock take & shall reconcile with data storage systems. She/He shall contribute to the ease of availability of ingredients for production
• Fleet Management
• Manage a team of despatchers and receivers.
• Strategically manage warehouse in compliance with company’s policies and vision
• Oversee receiving, warehousing, distribution and maintenance operations
• Setup layout and ensure efficient space utilization
• Initiate, coordinate and enforce optimal operational policies and procedures
• Adhere to all warehousing, handling and shipping legislation requirements
• Maintain standards of health and safety, hygiene and security
• Manage stock control and reconcile with data storage system
• Liaise with clients, suppliers and transport companies
• Plan and assign tasks appropriately and appraise results
• Produce reports and statistics regularly
• Receive feedback and monitor the quality of services provided

Minimum requirements:
• B-Tech / Degree in Logistics Management or Supply Chain Management or equivalent
• MINIMUM 5 years warehouse management experience in the Retail / FMCG sector.
• Extensive experience in managing bulk cargo and shipping containers.
• Solid experience in logistics document management (e.g. import, export, waybills, financial instruments, etc.)
• Advanced computer literacy in Microsoft Office
• Drivers license

The Opportunity

The commercial aquaculture industry in East Africa is growing rapidly, based on strong demand and excellent natural resources. Victory Farms is both the pioneer and leader in East Africa. With only 2 years of operation, VF is on track to be the fastest growing tilapia farm in Africa.

With this growth, comes challenges related to security. The fish production in cages in Lake Victoria and storage of fish feeds on the farm both create significant temptation for theft, both internal and external, and a sophisticated, multi-faceted security approach is required to manage this and maintain positive relations with staff and the community.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities will include:

Situational Overview, 1 month
• Develop an understanding for how the various components of the business fit together, from feed and ponds to boats and cages, all the way through to cold chain and distribution
• Prioritize the highest areas of risk to the company and postulate on methods that could be implemented to reduce or eliminate losses in these areas, including budget, operating cost, human resources required
Execute Primary Security Initiatives, 4 months
• Implement and execute the highest priority security initiatives, which will be a combination of technology-led solutions, physical security, data checkpoints, and human guards
• Develop protocols and operating procedures for all of these processes, with careful attention to challenges related to remote operations, poor power supply, unreliable human intelligence, data storage and film review, and standardization of activities

Forward Planning, 1 month
• Prepare a plan for the future, which may or may not require an expatriate security manager
• Engage and manage the handover process
• A longer-term position is possible, but will need to be fully considered

Experience & Attributes

The ideal candidate will be a security professional with a range of experiences in remote area, corporate security. He/she will possess an ability and desire to operate across multiple security media in order to build a broad range of preventative, deterrent, and corrective action measures to stop theft and improve security.

• Ability to develop solutions, combining low-cost, locally-available tools, alongside select and easy to maintain advanced technologies
