Background:
SNV Netherlands Development Organisation supports efforts to develop and implement sound agricultural, agro-industrial and value chain strategies to fight poverty, hunger and malnutrition, while boosting the competitiveness and efficiency of the agricultural and food sub-sectors in a sustainable way.
In its agriculture project implementation SNV adopts a facilitative value chain approach, where smallholder farmers are linked to markets, finance, inputs, equipment, and information through larger commercial farmers and traders who have the capacity and incentive to invest in smallholder production. These linkages build the capacity of smallholder farmers to increase the efficiency of their farm businesses with improved production and post-harvest handling practices.

Position:
We are currently seeking a Value Chain Advisor for our horticulture programs in SNV. The role of the Value Chain advisor is to (1) provide technical back stopping to selected SNV horticulture projects as per project contracts (2) support to strengthen SNV’s global position in horticulture (3) support to develop new business for SNV (4) contribute to develop innovative solutions and coordinate learning and (5) maintain and expand SNV’s relations and partnerships with key horticulture players.
This position reports to the Global Coordinator –Horticulture and works in close collaboration with the Country Sector Leaders, Project Managers, Marketing and Business Development team and the Global Agriculture Sector team.

Responsibilities:
• Support SNV’s horticulture projects in close collaboration with the project managers by delivering short-term technical back stopping for improvements on the implementation of ongoing horticulture value chain projects addressing use of inputs, production practices, post-harvest, processing and marketing priorities through market driven sustainable approaches;
• Work with value chain networks to identify upgrading opportunities, public-private partnerships and other opportunities that support an industrywide vision;
• Manage certain components of projects where required;
• Support design of new programmes and projects relating to agribusiness and value chain development specifically in the horticulture sector;
• Prepare, maintain and update horticulture knowledge agenda, capture lessons learned, stimulate internal and external knowledge exchange;
• Contribute to the collection and dissemination of data and information related to agribusiness, value chain, agro-industries and food systems trends, approaches and impacts, including lessons and good practices; support global learning, exchange of information through the internet and other mechanisms;
• Build, maintain and utilise networks and relationships for on-going and new opportunities with relevant stakeholders in horticulture e.g. companies, research institutions, universities, donors, etc.
• Undertake frequent travel to the projects.

General Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree in horticulture or agronomy and/ or a Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline;
• At least seven years of experience in the agriculture/horticulture sector in an international, multi country context;
• Track record in supervision, advisory work related to production, supply chain management, private sector development and technical backstopping;
• Sound experience of implementing projects;
• Focus on quality and driving for continuous improvement of deliverables in the horticulture sector;
• Proven capacity to work with teams operating at a distance;
• Excellent communication (writing and oral) skills, presentation and debating skills with experience in profiling an organisation in an international setting;
• Strong international networks within the agricultural sector, including Dutch horticulture sector;
• Entrepreneurial, result-oriented and driver for change;
• Broad interest in taking up tasks as they appear in the horticulture projects;
• Fluency in English and French, both oral and writing is required.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Position: Regional Agronomist West Africa
Country/Regional Name: Ivory Coast and Ghana, based in Ivory Coast.

Our client, in sustainable supply chain, is seeking a techno-commercial agronomist with a strategic approach and entrepreneurial mindset to build up the agronomy department across West Africa. This role will correspond with the various business heads such as Crop Doctor.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Regional Agronomist will be an individual with practical agronomy experience of either agronomically manage plantations for tree crops or have dealt with small holder farmers on the agronomy side. He/ She will have to demonstrate techno-commercial knowledge to be able not just improve agronomic interventions in our business but also provide commercial support to such interventions.

The Regional Agronomist role is a cross- business and functional role and is responsible for a wide variety of interventions:
- Support and develop technical content to be used in products and services distribution to farmers;
- Technical lead for Farm management services business that is being developed in West Africa region;
- Create and manage demo plot to demonstrate impact of Crop Doctor Products from the Ecom stable. Also create and manage demo plots for other businesses;
- Create a top quality agronomy team that provides best in class support to Ecom businesses in WAF and ensure it alignment with the company’s business strategy;
- Partner with SMS Advisory Services, SMS Farm management Services and Crop Doctor business
- Introducing current innovations in Agriculture worldwide into our businesses in WAF;
- Effectively report on new experiments and findings to build a consistent knowledge base across the WAF region;
- Build and own relationships with external agronomy research institutions;
- Build and develop relations with large plantation owners and with other Ecom group businesses to create a shared knowledge bank.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
 Post graduate in agriculture or Agronomy
 Minimum of 10 years’ experience in practical Techno- Commercial Agronomy.

Head of Agronomy and Sourcing in Burkina Faso , Burkina Faso

Our client is an established international supplier of organic and Fairtrade processed food. They have developed sustainable food chains in South America and Africa and they are looking for a Head of Agronomy and Sourcing for their processing business in Burkina Faso counting over 50 permanent staff and up to 500 seasonal workers and generating a turnover of around 3 to 4 mln Euro per year, .

The Head of Agronomy and Sourcing position is part of the Management Committee headed by the Managing Director and composed of three director’s positions:
1. Agronomy and Sourcing
2. Finance and Administration
3. Processing

The purpose of the job is to become strong in sourcing raw material and semi-finished products through direct, fair and transparent relations with producers and processors.

The position has the overall responsibility of raw material or semi-finished product procurement as well as for the agronomic department managing certifications (HACCP, NOP, EU-Organic, FLO etc.) and the development of new agricultural supply chains. The company aims for a lean management of agricultural product sourcing, certification and expansion processes with the necessary commercial, management and administrative activities

Leading a team of 15 people, driving the mission & vision of the company of which direct producer relationship and fair business practices le role responsibilities include:

For procurement:
• Manage the purchasing of raw materials and semi-finished products
• Establish the relevant contracts and supply chain flows in line with the quality requirements
• Develop the relevant network to fully understanding the market prices
• Propose and establish the relevant procurement strategies
• Compile necessary information
• Achieve full transparency in procurement from producers to processing

For Agronomy:
• Manage the internal control system and several different certificates on field as well as industry level
• Develop new supply areas / products together with producers and cooperatives
• Manage, advise and support the team of field staff and agronomists

• Increase the number of certified producers and cooperatives

• Review the project design and lead its execution
• Participate to select and work closely with the contractors in order to achieve the design and conception plans
• Lead a team including civil works and irrigation and conduct the works related to infrastructures, land development, irrigation network, etc.
• Conception and lead works for all the buildings and civil works (including the accommodation facilities)

The Financial Director will work directly with the Managing Director to identify, evaluate and setup new operations across sub-Saharan Africa and to manage existing and new operations. The position will involve three primary functions:
(1) support the Managing Director on investment planning (for new operational sites and countries or expansion projects);
(2) consolidate the financials of various companies (company per country operating in plus main holding company);
(3) support financial and operational staff within each country.
