Oversaw all departments and activities for this company (30m annual sales, 100m Assets and 40 employees). Developed management systems, Internal controls and compliances, negotiated customer, supplier and labour contracts and controlled day-to-day operations for this Integrated bio-refinery(Biogas and Ethanol plants) which produces fuel grade ethanol, animal feed and power. Managed the funding relationships with financial institutions as well as government granting agencies. Developed a hybrid pricing strategy to allow for flexibility in our dealings with our customers that was a key success for this company. Built strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders and closed three full successful external audits. Joined this new start-up company as the Plant controller and was promoted to GM and later on added the CFO function after internal restructuring. Other accomplishments include the seamless implementation of a new accounting system and policies, improved and consistent productivity levels, 25% reduction in annual insurance and audit fees, stabilized workforce with 40% reduction in employee turnover and achieving clean sheets on ALL CRA and Excise Canada annual audits and safety compliances.
As plant controller, I oversaw all financial activities for the plant, including creating and delivering strategic planning and outlooks, performing supply and variance analysis, tracking and highlighting key drivers in risk and opportunity reports, and coaching a team of three managers, three analysts and two interns. Achieved cash targets for the company through capital expenditure optimization, inventory control management and creditor management, while improving supply unit processes to lower costs.
