AGIAMONDO is the personnel service of the German Catholics for Development Cooperation. In the Civil Peace Service (CPS) we offer development workers a meaningful role working with local development agents. The CPS is a personnel programme for peacebuilding and the prevention of violence in crisis and conflict regions. It sets out to promote a
world in which conflicts are settled without violence. Working with church-related and civilsocial partner organisations in Sierra Leone, AGIAMONDO aims to make a contribution
towards civil conflict management and the sustainable and equitable development of the country through peace-building measures.
To support our partner organisation Women Against Violence and Exploitation in Society (WAVES), we are looking for a :

Your new role
The end of the civil war in 2002 marked a turning point for Sierra Leone. After years of violence, the people of Sierra Leone were able to focus on rebuilding the country, sometimes with strong international support. But despite the huge progress made in recent years, the resource-rich country still faces considerable challenges that threaten the peace and stability of the region. Even almost 20 years after the end of the civil war, the consequences of the violent conflict are still omnipresent. Insufficient access to education and resources and a high level of unemployment are accompanied by a growing lack of prospects, especially among young people. Sexualised and gender-specific violence is still part of the reality of life for many people in Sierra Leone. Girls and women suffer from physical and psychological violence on the one hand and are socially disadvantaged and restricted in the development of their identity by a variety of social and cultural practices on the other. Offenders often go unpunished. This is where the work of our partner organisation Women Against Violence and Exploitation in Society (WAVES), which has been active in the south of the country since 2005, comes in.
WAVES is committed to directly supporting women and girls affected by violence. In addition, the organisation proactively campaigns for changes to the social norms and national laws that disadvantage girls and women. Based on concrete work in the Bo region, WAVES is increasingly active in lobbying and advocacy work to improve the overall social framework for girls and women.
Specifically, you will carry out the following tasks:
· You will support WAVES employees in the further development of appropriate approaches
to the topics of gender and sexualised and gender-specific violence and help to develop
new target group-oriented working methods and to establish these in the organisation.
· You will advise the team in its efforts to change national laws and social norms on the
above-mentioned topics. Part of your work will be to help realign the lobbying and
advocacy strategy and to train your colleagues at WAVES in campaign work.
· You will support the employees in all matters of project management and jointly develop
the necessary internal processes, structures and materials.
· You will conduct training and further development events for the team and develop
appropriate training materials.
· You will be responsible for the proper spending and management of funds locally in
accordance with the donor and AGIAMONDO guidelines. In doing so, you will work in
partnership with WAVES.
· You have completed a university degree in a social science subject, preferably in
sociology, social education or peace and conflict research or in psychology. You have
several years of relevant professional experience.
·You have practical experience in working with sexualised and gender-specific violence.
You are sensitive and respectful in dealing with survivors of sexualised and genderspecific violence and are used to working appropriately in taboo topics. Relevant work
experience in another cultural area – ideally in West Africa – would be an advantage.
· You are experienced in supporting participatory processes to change social norms and
national laws. You have relevant knowledge in media, lobbying and advocacy work.
Knowledge of the strategic benefit of social networks and creativity in dealing with modern
media are a further advantage.
· You have gained initial experience in the design and execution of surveys and research
projects, including the evaluation and processing of the collected data and presentation of
the results. You are able to familiarise your colleagues with the basics of this work.
· You have excellent written and verbal English skills and are willing to learn Krio as part of
your preparations. Knowledge of additional languages of the project area would be an

· You are an EU or Swiss citizen and, as a member of a Christian church, identify with the
goals and concerns of church development and peace-building work with a strong sense
