Job Description

AGIAMONDO is the human resources service of German Catholics for Development Cooperation. In the Civil Peace Service (CPS), we offer you the opportunity to perform a meaningful role in collaboration with local peace workers. The CPS is a programme for peace-building and the prevention of violence in crisis and conflict regions. It advocates a world in which conflicts are settled without violence and supports partner organisations in all phases of conflicts including conflict prevention, violence mitigation and post-conflict rehabilitation. Together with church and civil-social partners in Cameroon, AGIAMONDO aims to contribute to civil conflict transformation using CPS peace-building measures.

To strengthen organizational processes, to expand adequate structures, and to support advocacy work on issues of social justice and non-violent conflict transformation, we are seeking for our partner organisation Integrated Youth Empowerment Centre (IYEC) to recruit, at the earliest opportunity, a Peace and conflict researcher (m/f/d), Douala, Cameroon.

Your new role
For a long time, Cameroon was regarded as an anchor of stability in an otherwise unstable region. But for some years now, the situation has been increasingly marked by tensions. The population is suffering more and more from the often violent conflicts in the country. Hundreds of thousands have been forced to leave their homes. Civil society actors are increasingly seeing fundamental political, social and cultural rights as endangered.
In this environment, the young and extremely dynamic team of the Integrated Youth Empowerment Centre (IYEC) works for the rights of those living on the outskirts of society. The IYEC supports them in helping to shape socio-political, economical and cultural decisions and achieving better access to the country's resources.
As part of the IYEC team, you will help to strengthen the structures of civil society, thus contributing to more social justice and a more peaceful coexistence between the various population groups in Cameroon.

Specifically, you will carry out the following tasks:
• You support the IYEC team and community volunteers in developing new strategies for non-violent processing of conflicts. In doing so, you will work mainly with young people and women.
• You will design training and further education programmes for human rights, peace and conflict work and train multipliers in the basic methods of the subject as well as in applying these in practice.
• You will help to further professionalise the advocacy work of the organisation and support disadvantaged groups in effectively standing up for their rights and concerns.
• Together with your colleagues, you will work on stronger cooperation between civil society actors and help them to organise themselves and to stand up for their concerns creatively, self-confidently and effectively.
• You are responsible for the proper spending and management of funds on-site in accordance with the donor guidelines and the specifications of AGIAMONDO. In doing so, you work in partnership with the IYEC.

Your profile
• You have completed a university degree in the field of social sciences or peace and conflict research.
• You have already accompanied organizational development processes, have knowledge and experience in the application of management and PME tools and are familiar with methods and concepts of practical peace and dialogue work.
• You have practical experience in human rights, peace and conflict work and/or in dealing with refugees.
• Ideally, you have previous experience in media relations, public relations or lobbying and advocacy work.
• You have practical experience in adult education and are accustomed to creating educational and training concepts and implementing them in a methodically appealing manner.
• You have a very good knowledge of English and French and are willing to travel regularly in the project area.
• You are a citizen of the EU or Switzerland and identify with Christian values and the goals and concerns of church development and peace work.

The offer of AGIAMONDO
• Individual and thorough preparation
• A three-year contract, social security and remuneration in accordance with the German Development Aid Workers Act (Entwicklungshelfergesetz)
• Cultural, language or other professional training, as well as coaching and supervision, individual advice
