Dear JobnetAfrica followers: First of all, we didn't make up this list, but we stumbled upon it on Africa.com. We understand you might feel this list is not correct or that you have another impression of which cities are most livable, but this is not a definite list and it is open for interpretation.
JobnetAfrica would like to know your view, so let us know in the comments if you agree with this list or if you think one or more cities are missing or if there are cities in this list you think shouldn't be there.
As with any similar list that measures something like 'livability', a somewhat subjective quality, the researchers relied on both quantitative and qualitative data to determine which cities would make this list and only cities in continental Africa are considered.
The researchers aggregated data primarily from African sources, so as to remove a Western bias. For example, they used the Ibrahim Index as a primary source in evaluating safety and security, rather than similar reports from Western governments in an effort to see Africa through the eyes of Africans.
Criteria included the following: availability of goods and services, quality of infrastructure, and overall security (which is defined both in personal terms and in national political terms).
With all that being said, here is the Top 10 Most Liveable Cities in Africa:
1. Cape Town, South Africa
2. Accra, Ghana
3. Nairobi, Kenya
4. Johannesburg, South Africa
5. Gaborone, Botswana
6. Libreville, Gabon
7. Tunis, Tunisia
8. Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
9. Windhoek, Namibia
10. Kigali, Rwanda
