A lot of people don’t really know how to interview good candidates properly and what to ask them. They end up asking the standard ‘old fashioned’ questions, like ‘What are your strengths and weaknesses?’ and ‘Tell me about a certain situation and how you handled’ this?’ etc.
Those questions are going to give you what you want to hear, but you won’t really learn anything about the candidate. Most of the candidates will have prepared for these type of questions and know what you want to hear and how to answer these questions.
What you want to do is throw the candidate a few curve balls.
This means asking a bit different questions. Questions they didn’t prepare for. Then you can actually see how they respond in the moment and maybe how they react if they are a bit stressed.

One of my favorite questions is ‘Tell me something that is true and almost nobody agrees with you on?’. I find it works really well and of course, feel free to try it out as well.
